take the upstander pledge

“I will not use insulting or demeaning language, slurs, gestures, facial expressions, or jokes about anyone’s sexuality, size, gender, race, any kind of disability, religion, class, politics, or other differences.” #UpstanderPledge from @TylerClementi #BullyingPreventionMonth pic.twitter.com/QGtIi5elXn

Finally this Bullying Prevention Month, my number one recommendation for anti bullying resources: the Tyler Clementi Foundation.

Have you read and taken the Upstander Pledge? It really made me think deeply about the ways I communicate and the things I stand for. In our culture of poking fun at people and situations, it’s so easy to thoughtlessly go too far. This paragraph is the one that reaffirmed for me the kind of person I want to be:

“I will not use insulting or demeaning language, slurs, gestures, facial expressions, or jokes about anyone’s sexuality, size, gender, race, any kind of disability, religion, class, politics, or other differences, in person or while using technology.”

Please join me in taking the pledge. (Visit tylerclementi.org/pledge to do so.)
