celebrate 'read an ebook' week!

Happy #ReadAnEBookWeek! Libraries (like my @GCLSLibrary) now offer free, easy eBook checkouts via @LibbyApp, @OverDriveInc, & @hooplaDigital. My first pick is Alone by @meganefreeman, a survival story not unlike my favorite, #GaryPaulsen’s Hatchet, but with a female protagonist. pic.twitter.com/BQ6HB7QcOF

This week is Read an eBook Week! Since I have always loved reading, I was an early adopter of eBook technology. My first Kindle was Amazon's second generation, released I think in 2009.

These days, you can check out eBooks from your local library — give it a try to see how easy it is! My library offers the Hoopla and Overdrive platforms. With Overdrive I can send the book to my Kindle (or the Kindle app on my iPad), and with Hooplal, it looks like I need to read on a mobile device. There's also the Libby app by Overdrive, from which I can send books to my Kindle device/app or read right there in Libby. (Hoopla and Overdrive both also have apps.) Just enter your library card info, and once your account is connected, it's time to browse!

I looked in Libby and right away, found a suggested book I want to read: Alone by Megan E. Freeman. It's an award-winning middle-grade book recommended for fans of Gary Paulsen's Hatchet. Survival story Hatchet is one of my all-time favorites, and Alone has a female protagonist. I've already gotten started.

Take a look online at your local library to see what the options are, and enjoy Read an eBook Week!
