in which i'm basically a houseplant

I know I feel damaged by the events of the past year. How about you? With consistent care, you’ll not only survive but begin to grow again. Be patient with yourself; it might look like nothing is happening. But keep going! 🌵 #keepgoing #keepgrowing #cactus #metaphor pic.twitter.com/97kmdxtIwC

For @UNESCO/@USA_IAA’s #WorldArtDay, here’s my favorite painting by my mom: acrylic on canvas, No. 4 paper machine at @Weyerhaeuser paper co. in #PlymouthNC, 1994. World Art Day celebrates the fine arts and promotes awareness of creative activity worldwide. Let’s make some art! pic.twitter.com/7bje3iJTGv

For Keeps

Joy Harjo

Sun makes the day new.
Tiny green plants emerge from earth.
Birds are singing the sky into place.
There is nowhere else I want to be but here.
I lean into the rhythm of your heart to see where it will take us.
We gallop into a warm, southern wind.
I link my legs to yours and we ride together,
Toward the ancient encampment of our relatives.
Where have you been? they ask.
And what has taken you so long?
That night after eating, singing, and dancing
We lay together under the stars.
We know ourselves to be part of mystery.
It is unspeakable.
It is everlasting.
It is for keeps.

sibling day celebrates your first best friend

April 10 is #NationalSiblingsDay! It’s been said that your sibling is your #firstbestfriend. These two were 27 months apart (Rader’s younger, on the left). They had a lot of adventures in not quite 16 years together. Here they’re at @BiltmoreEstate, maybe ages 6 and 8? pic.twitter.com/Hk05iJuYXD
