my best book read so far in 2021: revelatori

You may have seen in an earlier post, I got myself a stack of books for Christmas — they’ll keep me busy a while! Of those I’ve read so far, this one is my favorite: I am Definitely, Probably Enough (I Think) by Tori Press (@revelatori).

If you follow her on Instagram (and you absolutely should), you’ll know a little about what to expect. In the book she writes and draws about her ongoing experiences with perfectionism, depression, anxiety, and therapy. I love her style and use of color, but the main reason I liked the book so much is because I could absolutely relate to what she was talking about.

I’ve included photos of some of my favorite pages (my apologies for anything that looks a little skewed; as the type of book lover who likes to keep especially pretty books looking new, I couldn’t bring myself to mash open the spine to make the pages lie perfectly flat!).

If you, too, can relate to the excerpts I’ve posted here, my recommendation is this: You should definitely, probably buy this book!

From her book, some of Tori Press/@revelatori’s thoughts on #therapy. I had to laugh at the first one, under her section of “reasons I have avoided therapy.” pic.twitter.com/b20sJJ2RX9

I'm not surprised this #griefcomic was cartoonist @davekellett's best of 2020. I saw myself in every panel! #stagesofgrief #therearenostages #griefisnotlinear https://t.co/PYUbtXGF5X

Mario Monday: the gift of remembrance

I especially love the #8bitMario because our logo comes from a similar version, encompassing the four pixels right over #Mario’s heart. (The example here is from DeviantArt — Henrick Dulin, @henchmandraws.) [2/2] pic.twitter.com/ft8yhHoCbO

2021 is here, so let's begin

Here’s a link to A Creature of Habit, the episode of Hidden Brain I refer to.

Not surprised that this morning doesn’t feel like a fresh start. Not sure exactly how to ‘leave things in 2020.’ But this from @blessthemessy resonated with me. 2021 is here, so let’s begin. I want to change some habits, & the latest @HiddenBrain has great science-based advice. pic.twitter.com/KdHWBXXQh2

… because #OrigamiKing is not a game about grief. But Jason Coles/@EnotheStrife wrote a review in Eurogamer about a couple games that are purposefully grief-focused (#grisgame, #crossingsouls) and sound like they’re worth looking into. https://t.co/DmqNXnVODr [2/2]

In a fit of #holidaynostalgia, bought a @NordicWare #rosette iron & made #cookies like mom used to. mario kart monday! live home circuit

#MarioKartLive for #MarioMonday! These guys were our ‘big’ Christmas present this year. The karts’ cameras offer an #augmentedreality view of the course and your competitors — plus obstacles and power-ups that affect your real-life kart — as you race! If you want to see the karts in action (and this is *absolutely* worth the effort), visit @muskratnation on Instagram and watch their “Mario Kart: Muskrat Edition” video, featuring of course your heroes Mario and Luigi, but also five or six cats. You won’t regret it.

companioning is about being still

#DrWolfelt’s Tenets of Companioning the Bereaved aren’t a list of “what to do” to help the #grieving person. Rather they focus on how to be. For more resources to support someone in #grief (including yourself), see https://t.co/SzrF6O0rgU. pic.twitter.com/GgUn7ys3ee
